Welcome to Quail Quest

Who We Are

Our farm offers over 1,500 acres of CSA grass and cropland to hunt on, with a number of high quality services provided in a private and relaxing atmosphere. Kansas is one of the world’s most popular destinations for upland bird hunting. North Central Kansas, where our farm is located, has been tagged as the best in Kansas. We’re right in the middle of the best pheasant hunting region on the planet.

The ring-necked pheasant was introduced to Kansas in 1906 and has become the symbol of the state. Annual pheasant harvests here are invariably in the top 3 of the nation. In addition to the quality pheasant hunting we also have some of the best farm fishing that can be found. If you like to fish, too, contact us.

Our family comes from a hunting background. We know what is needed to insure a high quality professional hunt. Come hunt with us at Quail Quest for the upland hunting experience of a lifetime!

The Experience

It may not be coincidental that the name of the small town where we are is, Hunter, Kansas. If you’re looking for a genuine wing shooting experience and country hospitality, contact us. We have the hunt you’re looking for.

Birds, Bucks and Heartland Hospitality.
It just doesn’t get any better.

Meet the Owners

Jason and Darci Seehafer along with his parents Rod and Janet Seehafer personally own the land and have professionally operated the hunting enterprise from its early beginnings of 2008. The entire operation consists of CRP grass, cattail sloughs, standing milo & suda that all benefit the wildlife that calls Kansas home. You and your guests will be treated like family and enjoy lots of hunting action and friendly service. Quail Quest Hunting looks forward to seeing you soon!

Our Guides & Staff

Zach Hlad – Guide

Zach Hlad has been around since the beginning, as he is Jason’s brother-in-law, but didn’t start guiding until 2016.  Zach grew up in Sylvan Grove, KS and graduated from McPherson College with a degree in Chemistry.  He now works as a Park Ranger at Wilson Lake just down the road.  Zach likes to watch the dogs work and runs a variety of dogs, but his go-to is a hard-working Brittany named Copper.  When Zach isn’t working at the lake or guiding, he and his wife, Mary, are busy with their 3 boys (Cason, Camden, and Witten).

Paul Zedalis – Guide

Paul came onto our Quail Quest Hunting team in 2017, after retiring from the United States Army. He served for over 30 years with our Armed Forces and ended his career as a Command Sergeant  Major with the 1st Infantry Division at Fort Riley, Kansas. This is where he finally decided to put down his roots.

Originally from Virginia, Paul grew up hunting at a very young age and is an avid bowhunter and experienced outdoorsman. He enjoys upland game and deer hunting, but turkey hunting is his #1 passion.

He resides in Junction City, Kansas and can be seen on our farm with his lab named Private, his German Shorthair pointer – Max, an offspring from our own kennels and his large Munsterlander – Pepper. Paul absolutely loves guiding hunters here at Quail Quest Hunting and always strives to make your hunt a very fun, enjoyable, and truly memorable experience.

Mark Spears – Staff

Mark Spears has guided at Quail Quest for 7 years. His regular job is teaching 7-12 Mathematics at the Wilson Schools. He is currently working on his 41st year of teaching. Mark farms for a father/son operation during the Summer months, so he gets a firsthand look at the quail, pheasant, and deer population in the area. In his free time he enjoys fishing, deer hunting, and bird hunting with his 2 Labs, Scout who is 9, and Scout’s son Sarge who is 3.

Caleb Bryant – Guide

Caleb Bryant started guiding at Quail Quest Hunting in 2020. He lives in Lucas, KS and has a passion for anything outdoors. He loves being able to work with his 2 dogs. Caleb has a GSP named Gator and a GWP named Mac. In Caleb’s spare time he loves to hunt, fish and spend time at Lake Wilson with family and friends.

Ryley Hembrey – Guide

Ryley is a Missouri native but found a home in the heart of Kansas. His love of hunting started at a young age and he now enjoys hunting most game available in Kansas including deer, turkey, upland birds and coyote. Ryley’s passion is upland bird hunting and guiding with his labradors Ripley and Rizzy.

Ryley is a radiologic technologist and the Radiology Director at Lincoln County Hospital. When he isn’t hunting, he enjoys sharing his love for the outdoors and spending time with his wife Kati, and their daughters Kimber, Kalli and Whitley.
